When I told him I had dropped out of school, he said something to the effect of, That's cool. Years after I was supposed to graduate, I met a former high school classmate. How you can grow up, sell out, fit in, sign up for a mortgage, and then die. 'We all got a job, where the whole family. 'We were experiencing poverty at that point,' he told CBS News. Everyone wants to tell you the safe thing to do. On his 16th birthday, he dropped out of high school and joined his family in the workforce. It's not even so much the advice itself, although that's generally pretty terrible, too, but it's that it's not even interesting. I know every word to 'Thunder Kiss 65' and 'More Human Than Human' because Zombie (along with Metallica, Corrosion of Conformity, and Megadeth) were on heavy rotation in the bedroom I shared with my bro. One thing I've noticed since starting this blog, Pink Slipped, earlier this year is how terrible most career advice is. My introduction to Rob Zombie came from my older brother when we were in high school via LA SEXORCISTO and ASTRO-CREEP 2000. Taking the career path less traveled takes you to some strange places, but its lessons are better than those taught in any classroom. Did rob zombie drop out of highschool how to#School teaches you how to do what other people want you to do. I learned how to push myself as a freelancer for over a decade. Robert Bartleh Cummings, better known by his stage name Rob Zombie, was born on Januin Haverhill, Massachusetts, to Robert and Louise Cummings. I learned how to work with something bigger than myself in 12 years of horseback riding. I learned how to apply myself by doing karate. Looking back on my life, I would have to say that pretty much everything I learned of import in my life I learned in life, not in school. Occasionally, I think it would be amusing to go back to high school now and get my degree. Sometimes I have dreams wherein I realize I am flunking out of high school, and it's too late to do anything about it. I graduated from UCB, then went to grad school. At a certain point, it no longer mattered. I do not have anything like a high school equivalency degree. There, I did my basic course work, and, with some college credits I had earned taking a couple summer courses at the University of California at Berkeley when I was a high school sophomore, I transferred to UCB. I studied karate, where I learned the self-discipline I was sorely lacking. So, when it became clear I wouldn't graduate, I threw up my hands and dumped the whole thing.Īfter that, I took a couple years off. The most significant thing I remember from that period was a trip to Los Angeles that featured a roller coaster ride during which I was under the influence of Ecstasy. I dropped out in April of my senior year because I was not going to graduate on time.
